| In This Site | MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Marine Safety Group, Inc. is to protect coastal and marine habitats and wildlife, and the people that interact with and use these resources. Our mission is accomplished through advocacy and education. We advocate sensible laws and regulations that allow our marine wildlife and ecosystems to remain healthy, and at the same time maximize the safety of all people who, through deliberate choice or happenstance, come into contact with marine wildlife. Our educational efforts are aimed at effectively communicating with the public on issues of particular interest and immediacy. A BRIEF HISTORY The Marine Safety Group, Inc. is a grass roots public interest organization formed by a small group of concerned citizens/sport divers of south Florida. The three initial "founders" of the MSG had banded together for several years in response to common concerns over issues of public safety and wildlife conservation associated with the growing practice of marine predator feeding by local commercial dive tour operators. The fledgling Marine Safety Group saw these profit-motivated activities - including the hand feeding of wild sharks and other marine predators right off public beaches and at popular dive sites - as an unacceptable form of exploitation of marine wildlife and a credible threat to public safety. This collaboration inevitably led to the formal establishment of the organization as a Florida Non-Profit corporation on May 18, 2001.
