Dave Earp
Secretary/Treasurer

Dave began diving South Florida waters in the mid 1980's and has logged over 6000 dives. In the early 1990's Dave began commercially diving for lobsters as his full time occupation. During this time span he has seen many changes including the most beneficial results of the Florida net ban, the effects of artificial reefs on our environment, but none more dramatic than the change in the natural behavior of sharks in our Florida waters.

Dave began noticing the behavioral change as dive tour operators began feeding, conditioning, and congregating sharks near popular dive sites and our beaches. Shark encounters started to become a daily occurrence. Each encounter seemed to become more aggressive and dangerous. Dave discussed the problem with long time friend and dive buddy Bob Dimond. We decided to ask the feeders to "cool it" but it had little affect. Bob and Dave contacted Stephen Picardi who had already begun to publicly question the wisdom of feeding dives. We decided that we must go to the state and ask them to ban shark and fish feeding in all Florida waters. The Marine Safety Group was born.
