Environmental News Network Press Release

The Delray News publishes a scathing article helping persuade the City of Delray to send a strong letter to the FWC urging an outright ban.

Inside Edition recently ran a story on Shark Feeding.

CYBER DIVER NETWORK PUBLISHES PART I + II of an extensive interview with the Marine Safety Group.
Don’t Bite the Hand that Feeds You - Why PADI Supports Shark-Feeding (and why environmentalists don’t) Visit the unbiased Cyber Diver Forum recognized throughout the world as a respected and honest source of information.

PADI, DEMA, Rodales suffer third sharkfeeding defeat. Another great article on the world's most popular online dive magazine.

Lighthouse Point and Hillsboro Beach join in with other communities supporting the ban.

Deerfield Beach takes action while Pompano Beach remains in denial.  (6-Feb 01)
The Deerfield Beach City Commission took a big step Tuesday toward protecting those who swim, snorkel and dive off its beaches by unanimously approving an ordinance that will ban the feeding of marine wildlife by dive operators licensed to do business in the city.
Other cities are sure to follow suit and ban it from their beaches as well.

ENVIRONMENTALISTS DEFEAT PADI.  Florida, USA - Feb. 11 -- PADI,  a diver certification organization that is fighting against environmentalists over shark-feeding, suffered a major setback when the Deerfield Beach City Commission voted to ban sharkfeeding.

NBC News Story on the Deerfield Beach decision.

Florida Fish & Wildlife Commissioner Edwin Roberts:
'The number of tourists who participate in shark-feeding tours compounds the shark attack rate in Florida, Commissioner Edwin Roberts of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.  "It's a dumb thing to do," Roberts said. "You don't need to interact with sharks to have a successful dive." '

University of Florida study reveals that shark attacks are increasing.

From Gary Stock, PADI Divemaster: " Shame on PADI and DEMA for letting down the vast majority of the scuba diving community in this "dash for cash" approach to marine life encounters. When you could have stood up and exemplified environmental responsibility, you sold out to commercial exploitation of marine wildlife."

SHARK BITE VICTIM PLANS TO SUE.
Weeks of agonizing pain from a nurse shark bite while it was being fed.
VIGILANCE NEEDED TO PROTECT OUR INTERESTS by Steve Waters. " I am concerned that the FWC, in its effort to control the feeding of sharks off Broward County beaches, will end up creating marine preserves in which no fishing is allowed. That's part of the management plan drafted by shark feeders in response to the FWC's concerns about swimmers, divers and snorkelers being attacked by sharks that have been conditioned to get their food from humans. I guess it's just coincidence that it's the same plan being floated by local shark-feeding dive operators, who stand to profit handsomely from a shark park."
